THE former director of infrastructure services at the City of Maribyrnong will join the City of Greater Bendigo as the director of strategy and growth.

Steve Hamilton, who has also worked as the director of city futures at the City of Darebin, said he is looking forward to being a part of Bendigo’s leadership team.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me,” he said.

“My experience has been in building, leading and managing diverse teams and large-scale businesses and organisations across Australia and internationally, while remaining people-focused and building positive workplace culture.

“My previous roles have involved strategic and statutory planning and managing complex customer-facing services, so I look forward to this experience supporting staff across portfolios like Bendigo Art Gallery, The Capital and Ulumbarra theatres, and Bendigo Airport”

Mr Hamilton said he is “excited” by the City’s designation as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and “reputation as a leading cultural and events centre in regional Victoria.”

“I have had a long connection with Bendigo through family visits, kids’ sport and holidaying in the region, so I welcome this opportunity to get to know the local community better and support council to implement its new Council Plan,” he said.

Municipal CEO Craig Niemann welcomed Mr Hamilton to his new position, his first in a regional local government area.

“Steve’s career has focused on people and cultural leadership, advocacy, relationship building and business growth, and his roles have included land use planning, the environment, water and waste management, and major project delivery,” Mr Niemann said.

“We look forward to Steve joining us next month and welcome his contribution to shaping the future of our city and region.”
