COMMUNITY groups and organisations looking to hold events or activities during this year’s international 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence campaign, which runs from 25 November to 10 December, are eligible for a civic grant of up to $1,500.
The initiative calls on communities all around the world to take action to prevent violence against women and advocate for respect, safety and equality.
“The City of Greater Bendigo is encouraging local groups, schools, organisations and networks to apply for a grant and hold an event that will help prevent gender-based violence in our community,” the City’s healthy communities and environments director Jess Howard said.
“We want all local groups who would like to hold an activity, event, conversation, or a creative or educational project that promotes respect and gender equality during this year’s program to apply for this funding.
“Gender-based violence is a serious issue in our community and this is a great opportunity for local groups to help promote respect, equality and safety in our community.”
Funded activities must occur within the scheduled dates and will be included in the city’s official calendar of events.
A report from the World Health Organisation released last year found that almost 26 per cent of formerly or currently partnered or married women aged between 15 and 49 have been subjected to physical and/or sexual violence from a current or former husband or male intimate partner at least once in their lifetime.
Applications can be submitted through the City of Greater Bendigo website.
