COMMUNITY members with a keen interest in the region’s storied past have been invited to nominate themselves for a rejuvenated Heritage Advisory Committee.

The committee, which will convene six times per year and comprise up to 15 members, will be tasked with providing the City of Greater Bendigo with advice on a range of strategic documents as well as guidance regarding the conservation, restoration and promotion of local places of heritage significance.

It’s also planned that the group will help promote community awareness of the importance of heritage preservation, provide further advice to the City on current and emerging issues and opportunities, and assist in the development of various partnerships and communication networks.

“The City is looking for a diverse mix of people with a passion for Greater Bendigo’s heritage who can contribute great ideas and review strategic documents being developed,” CoGB manager strategic planning Anthony Petherbridge said.

“This is an opportunity to contribute your knowledge, experience and passion and to help protect what makes Greater Bendigo unique.

“The Heritage Advisory Committee also provides valued technical expertise and a strong community voice, helping the City deliver on its goals and actions for Greater Bendigo’s collective heritage.”

The committee’s past contributions have included providing feedback on draft heritage design guidelines, input on a new heritage strategy and hosting the City’s first heritage forum, which was held last year.

The council would particularly welcome expressions of interest from people from the broader region, and from younger people with an interest in heritage and conservation.

Applications close on Friday 15 May. To view a copy of the committee’s terms of reference and submit your name, visit bendigo.vic.gov.au/building-and-business and scroll to Heritage.
