BENDIGO Food Share has received a large end-of-financial-year donation from a local business as part of the charity’s tax-time fundraising appeal.

Foodshare CEO, Michelle Murphy said financial gifts, like the $12,000 one recently received from Bendigo Cleaning Company, helped keep the food security group going.

“Donations such as the one from the Bendigo Cleaning Company are critical to our operations,” she said.

“We’re community owned and run and we’ve got a workforce of 250, but over 240 of those are volunteers.

“Most of our income comes from the community so our end-of-financial year campaign is something we encourage and urge people to get behind.

“All the food and money we can get means more food getting out to people in need.

“Organisations or companies such as Bendigo Cleaning Company are fabulous supporters, and to get their contributions at tax time makes a big difference for us.”

Bendigo Cleaning Company owner Martin Leach said he has long been a supporter of Foodshare and urged others to contribute.

“In difficult times food poverty can hit anybody in the community and we as a business have been supporting Bendigo Foodshare for many years,” he said.

“We are really keen to encourage other businesses at tax time to consider their donation budget and consider Bendigo Foodshare because it’s local and it’s helping local people.

“It could even be helping your own employees. We don’t know, you don’t know, nobody knows who’s struggling with food property.”
