Climate group award finalist

THE Greater Bendigo Climate Collaboration has been announced as a finalist in the 2023 Cities Power Partnership Climate Award collaboration category.

The award seeks to recognise local governments who are successfully working towards a zero-carbon future.

The Collaboration is made up of 12 organisations and aims to bring businesses, community groups, households, and schools together to help the City of Greater Bendigo achieve a target of zero emissions by 2030.

Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf congratulated all members of the collaboration and said it was a fantastic achievement.

“This is well deserved recognition for all the groups, organisations, businesses and individuals involved in the collaboration who are working together to help our region reach zero emissions by 2030,” she said.

The Collaboration has organised community forums, CEO round table discussions, put on expert speakers talking about subjects like transport and social justice, and organised the Greater Bendigo Climate Summit which was attended by 700 people, and

The group’s work came together in the Greater Bendigo Zero Emissions Road Map which named 35 of the most important projects for reaching the zero-emission target.

Dr Portia Odell, director of the Cities Power Partnership, said this year’s award entries showed ambition and a new era of climate action.

“From councils collaborating to source 100 per cent renewable energy to power their operations, to supporting low-income households to install solar panels and insulate their homes, our finalists are leading the way,” she said.

The winners will be announced Thursday 7 September.
