Community invited to Girton art extravaganza
STUDENTS at Girton Grammar are preparing for their annual art show to be held at the MacKenzie Street campus next weekend.
Based on the theme Around the world, artworks from students at both the senior and junior campuses will be shown together for the first time in the history of the event.
Entertainment will be provided on the day by the Girton Big Band alongside performances by VCE music students.
There will also be a showcase of films and audiovisual works by the school’s VCE media students screened in the historic Girton House.
Guests will have the chance to win homewares from Alex Muir, Pan After, and Murphy & Daugthers, or an artwork from locals Sarah Gabriel, Kevin Foley, or Nic James, who is head of visual arts at Girton.
Mrs James has run the show for the past 26 years and said it provides an opportunity for students to see their work framed and enjoyed by the community.
“I am so proud to teach our students and to see the reactions of them, their families and the community during this event is incredibly moving and rewarding,” she said.
“Paintings, collage, film, sculpture, ceramics, installations; there is something for all art lovers, all created by our talented students.”
The one-day event will include a guided art activity in which guests can create their own artwork.
The show will be held from 9am to 1pm on Saturday 9 September at 105 MacKenzie Street and entry is by gold coin donation.
