Comp backs local musos
ONE lucky singer or band could get ongoing financial support as part of Golden Vine Hotel’s new sponsorship initiative.
The pub and live music destination recently announced a competition for local offering a prize of $15,000 annually, paid weekly, as well as ongoing gigs.
Co-owner of Golden Vine Hotel, Gary Dahan, said he and his partner Theresa Dahan came up with the idea to give something back to the music community.
“The pub is really firing,” he said. “Theresa and I made the decision to give a little bit back and sponsor a local musician so they can find the time to work on their music, song writing, whichever way they want to utilise the money.”
Musicians can enter by contacting the pubs booking address, [email protected], explaining how the money would benefit them.
“I just want to hear from people in their own words how their life will benefit from getting the sponsorship and what they can do with it to further their career,” Mr Dahan said.
Mr Dahan said he has heard from many musicians saying they’ve lost the desire to perform during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Hopefully this package will pull somebody out of that environment and get them back into doing what they want to do,” he said.
“Getting support to follow a passion; I think that’s life changing.
“It’s always hard as a business to give money away to anything… sponsorship’s just about giving a bit back and that’s not a bad thing.”
Entries close on Wednesday, 22 June, with a winner to be announced at the Golden Vine Hotel’s first singer-songwriter night on Thursday, 23 June.
