CONSTRUCTION on two major facility overhauls at Bendigo Health’s residential care complex on Gibson Street has started.

The works include the extension of a multi-purpose activity room at Joan Pinder Nursing Home and a new fresh cook kitchen.

The kitchen, which will be run by two qualified chefs, is set to provide for 120 residents in the complex.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said the renovations would enhance the range of activities for people living at the nursing home.

“Musical therapy and expanded exercise programs are all designed to improve the residents’ quality of life,” she said.

The works are as a part of the $1.8 million spend from the State Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

Ms Edwards said the upgrade “reinforces the significance of the Andrews Government’s investment in aged care facilities.”

Bendigo Health chair Bob Cameron said the progress made on the Gibson Street complex was “impressive.”

The facilities are expected to be completed midway through this year.

“Bendigo Health is consistently working to modernise aged care facilities which includes providing extensive space for allied health services and recreational activities on-site,” Mr Cameron said.
