THE country’s top ballroom dancers are coming to Bendigo for the Australian DanceSport Championships.

The Australian Dancing Society announced last week Bendigo Stadium will host the competition from Friday, 4 March to Sunday, 6 March next year.

“The Australian Dancing Society is both delighted and grateful to announce that in partnership with the City of Greater Bendigo, the 75th Australian Dancesport Championship will take place over three wonderful days of competition at the Bendigo Stadium,” president of the Australian Dancing Society Melinda Hayes said.

The news comes after the competition, which was originally scheduled for Melbourne in December, was postponed due to COVID-19 difficulties.

“On behalf of the National board of directors I am humbled by giving our competitors, adjudicators and spectators a beacon of hope to strive towards as the light at the end of our long dark tunnel becomes brighter and brighter,” Ms Hayes said.

“I’m very much looking forward to welcoming you all to Bendigo in March.”

City manager of tourism and major events Terry Karamaloudis welcomed the decision to host the event at Bendigo Stadium.

“With top professional and amateur competitors taking part, this will be a magnificent showcase,” he said.

“Australian DanceSport will entertain and enthral our community and visitors attending this very exciting three-day event.”

The competition will see evening finals on the Friday and Saturday, with a grand final on the Sunday.

National champions will be crowned in professional and amateur categories, with world representatives selected in the open amateur event.
