MEMBERS of the Bendigo Ballroom Dance Club will put on their dancing shoes for a good cause this weekend.

The club has been raising money for Bendigo Foodshare through raffles and will present the final cheque on Sunday after a dance at Marong Community Hall.

“When we started off with our first fundraiser in February, we got such a great response from the community that we got over $2000 in prizes, so we decided to break it up into three raffles and hold it over three dances,” said Bendigo Ballroom president Daryl Smallman.

“So far, we’ve raised about $1600 in the raffle and we anticipate by the time we finish this one we’ll be able to donate about $3000.

“It’s been a fantastic effort from the dancing community. We have between 50 and 70 dancers turn up to our Marong dance.

“They include people from Echuca, Kyneton, Ballarat, Kerang and it’s all the areas that Foodshare services.”

Mr Smallman said members were “just happy to help out” with the cause, with prizes including a Canon digital camera all donated by local businesses.

Sunday’s dance is also open to members of the public, and includes swing, waltz, tango and many other varieties.
