THE Gianna Centre is set to host a memorial for families on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day to unite the community and support those affected by tragedy.

Bendigo-based, the Gianna Centre is a charity with an open-door policy focusing on offering care, support, and resources to families during their most challenging times.

The centre offers services for areas including pregnancy, parenting, relationships, fertility, loss, grief, and other connected issues.

Now the Gianna Centre is set to hold a memorial service on international pregnancy and infant loss Remembrance Day on Saturday, 15 October from 10am.

The memorial wall built at the Eaglehawk Remembrance Park and aims to create a please for families to place plaques in honour of their infants.

Gianna Centre volunteer co-ordinator Jayde Nicolson said the event will be a chance to help break stigmas, support families and provide opportunities for closure.

“It will be a service where we will have families tell their shared experiences,” she said.

“We will have poems about grief and loss of babies, lighting candles in remembering the babies that have been lost, whether that be babies at six weeks, stillborn, or infant loss whether this is to SIDS or other tragic accidents.

“The event is a form of closure and a great way to remember and celebrate the lives.

“I would like the community to know it’s okay to talk about, sometimes it can be a subject people don’t tell others that they’ve had a miscarriage too early along.

“There are probably lots of people in the community that might have gone through this, whether it’s friends or family.”

The event will be held at Eaglehawk Remembrance Park, located at 5 Victoria Street with refreshments to follow.

Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day services is free and open to the public but RSVPs are essential by October 12 via Eventbrite, The Gianna Centre’s Facebook or email to [email protected].
