Discount on dog desexing
CONCESSION card holders are now eligible for discounted dog desexing at the Bendigo Animal Relief Centre as part of a new program.
BARC has partnered with the National Desexing Network to implement the scheme, which will work on a referral system.
BARC operational manager Fra Atyeo said the discounted cost of desexing would be $75 per dog regardless of age, breed or sex; a price she said was affordable.
“This is a great opportunity for eligible residents to save considerably on the cost of desexing their dog,” Ms Atyeo said.
“However, availability is limited and access to the program will be triaged so residents with a concession card wanting to take advantage of this offer will need to contact BARC as soon as possible to apply.
“BARC is currently experiencing an increase in the number of puppies being surrendered at the centre and while we will offer the service as a priority to dog owners who surrender puppies to break the cycle, we also welcome inquiries from other residents.”
Ms Atyeo said more than 120 puppies were presented to the centre for rehoming over the last 12 months.
“This is an icrease of 100 per cent compared to the previous 12-month period,” she said.
“Most of the litters presented to BARC have occurred unintentionally, which could have been avoided if the owners had their dog desexed.
“Desexed pets live longer and healthier lives, are less prone to wander, fight and be anti-social.
“In addition, the cost to register your dog each year is much lower if it is desexed, providing further savings for pet owners.”
Concession card holders interested in taking up the discount offer should contact the centre as soon as possible by emailing [email protected].
