A PLANT craft start-up, which started offering workshops in July, is holding wreath making sessions in time for Christmas.

The events are run by Botanical Lane and creative director Elizabeth Knight said there is a mix of local and European materials available to help create that perfect yuletide hanging.

She said attendees can use as much or as little of the materials provided for their wreaths, including spruce, woolly plants, Cyprus, gypsophila, gum nuts, blue gum foliage, and dried citrus.

“It’s a blend of European and Australian materials, and with the dried citrus and the cinnamon and the gumnuts it sort of blends,” said Ms Knight.

“Everyone can make their own, it’s not like a cookie cutter type thing. Everybody is unique, so the way they style their homes, and the wreath is different.”

Ms Knight said she is grateful for the interest the classes have got so far, with many having been fully booked.

“I thought it would take me 12 months, but it’s actually been a lot better than I expected,” she said.

“The kokedama workshops are extremely popular, and what I’m finding is that people who are coming, they want more, they want something else.

“I’ve got some people who’ve been coming to all of them and bringing different groups of friends.

“They’re looking to just connect with people and do an activity and take something home that they’ve made themselves.”

Botanical Lane’s final workshops of the year are on Sunday 17 December, with wreath making in the morning and one for kokedama in the afternoon.

The events are being run at Omari in the Botanical Gardens.
