TICKETS for Bendigo Business Council’s annual early-year talk and breakfast centred around the economy are now available.

Chief economist and head of economic and markets research at Bendigo and Adelaide Back, David Robertson, will again present the event, called the State of the Economic Market.

Chief executive officer of Be.Bendigo, Rob Herbert, said Mr Robertson typically reflects on the events of the previous year and forecasts what the year ahead might look like financially.

“Think about 2023, the impacts of the conflict in the Ukraine, and cost of living pressures, the transition to renewables,” said Mr Herbert.

“Whether we see an easing of interest rates, let’s hope, throughout 2024, as opposed to what’s happened over the course of the last 12 months or so.

“I think we’re all hopeful that some of those rising cost pressures and that will subside somewhat in the new year, and there’s a bit more of a positive outlook for 2024.”

According to Mr Herbert, the breakfast has become very popular and is seen by many in the local business community as a key economic update.

“It’s a good time to reflect on what happened last year and hear from an experienced economist about what the year ahead might hold,” he said.

“Recognising that there’s always different dynamics and variables that can influence that without notice.

“It’s a very well received event, we’re looking forward to hosting it, and we’re very fortunate to have David as our keynote speaker.”

The event will be held on 20 February next year at All Seasons Resort Hotel.

Both Be.Bendigo members and non-members are welcome at the event, and for more information the local commerce group can be contacted directly through its website or by calling 5442 7816.
