SADDLE up horse racing fans, the Elmore Cup is returning to the Bendigo Jockey Club at the start of next month.

Chair of Elmore Racing Club, Frank Kusters, said the organisation has a long history, and the Elmore community has been attending the cup in Bendigo for the past six decades.

“Elmore used to have its own race track many years ago,” he said. “In the 60s, a lot of smaller race tracks in Victoria closed down and we were one of them.

“Since then, we’ve been racing our cup at Bendigo. Elmore did run their cup at the Elmore racetrack for 99 years.”

Mr Kusters said Elmore Cup Day consists of eight races and is expecting a crowd of a couple of thousand people, including many Elmore residents.

“We bring the Elmore community to Bendigo, as many people as we can,” said Mr Kusters. “There’s a wonderful atmosphere at the course on that day because the Elmore community supports it.

“The bottom line is, it’s a club that’s been in existence for about 160 years, and we’re still going and bringing a good social day celebrating the Elmore community.”

The Elmore Cup is set for Bendigo Jockey Club on Saturday, 3 June.
