THE second stage of Ewing Park’s multimillion dollar upgrade will be officially opened this Saturday with people invited to come along and check out the works.

Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf, as well as Member for Bendigo East and freshly minted Premier Jacinta Allan, will be in attendance for the occasion, and the former said there was lots on offer.

“There will be outdoor fitness classes, bouldering and rock climbing, bike riding activities on your own bike and learn to skate sessions, plus other activities centred around AFL, cricket, walking football, and basketball,” said Cr Metcalf.

“There will also be coffee and a sausage sizzle available to purchase on the day.

“This has been an important project and a strong investment by the City and the Victorian Government to encourage residents to be active, or just simply enjoy the parkland and all the new amenities that it offers.

“There are so many great things for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy at the park and we look forward to it becoming a key destination for both residents and visitors in the future.

“Ewing Park is within walking distance to the city centre and is easily accessed from the popular Bendigo Back Creek Walking and Cycling Trail, making it very accessible off road for many residents.

“I invite everyone to attend the community come and try day and remind them to bring along a water bottle, a picnic rug, wear sunscreen, a hat and clothing suitable to get active in.”

Stage two of the project included a new skate park, a learn to ride area, playground, a cycling trail hub shelter with a repair station, and several other developments, with the works costing $3.37 million.

Previous capital works undertaken at the location involved a new football oval, running track, fencing and supporting infrastructure, and cost $1.6 million.

The community come and try day at Ewing Park is set for Saturday 14 October from 9.30am to 12pm.
