LOCAL fintech CEO David Joss has launched a petition in an effort to convince Qantas to maintain its morning and evening flights out of and into Bendigo Airport.

Currently, Qantas plans to change the Bendigo-Sydney schedule to middle-of-the-day turnarounds, making it practically impossible for central Victorian businesspeople to spend a full day in Sydney and return home the same evening.

“The current timetable works – flights are very well-patronised and crucial for both business and tourism,” he commented on Facebook on Tuesday.

“The new schedule simply doesn’t serve our community and if patronage drops it may ultimately become commercially unviable for Qantas.

“If you’d like to see Qantas keep flights at times that actually work for Bendigo, please add your name and share the petition,” he urged the community.

“The more voices we have, the harder we are to ignore.

“We call on Qantas to listen to the Bendigo community and retain a daily schedule that works – with at least one early-morning Bendigo–Sydney flight and one evening return from Sydney,” Mr Joss also posted on the change.org website.

“Let’s keep Bendigo connected in a way that supports business, tourism, and our future.”
