THE new Wayipunga Bendigo Early Parenting Centre in Havlin Street East has been officially opened by Premier Jacinta Allan.

The centre offers free specialist sleep, settling and feeding services, plus support with the health and wellbeing of babies and parents, and aims to help families navigate the early years of parenthood.

It’s believed that almost half of Victorian families face sleep and settling issues, leading to higher risk of post-natal depression, isolation and stress for parents, and behavioural, mental and physical development problems for children.

The facility is designed to be a home away from home for new parents – with 10 residential family units and four day-stay places.

Families can access both short and longer-term programs.

The project’s architects consulted childcare experts, local community groups and traditional owners as part of the design process to ensure it reflects the community it serves.

Natural light, rooms suitable for various family arrangements and a place that feels like home were some of the priorities incorporated in the final designs.

The colour palette was developed to mirror the landscape in the Loddon Mallee and surrounds, featuring colours inspired by the native flora and environment of the area.

“Being a new parent is one of the most amazing experiences, but it can also be one of the most stressful,” Ms Allan said.

“No parent should have to struggle alone. This centre means that families across Bendigo can get the support they need, right when they need it, and they don’t have to worry about the cost.”

Information about eligibility criteria and how to obtain an appointment at the centre can be found at bendigohealth.org.au/earlyparentingcentre.
