Feel the flow at House of Flux
AN exhibition of photo-media showcasing art and movement inside the home has opened at the Bendigo Visitor Centre’s Living Arts Space.
House of Flux, by Bendigo artist Nikita Hederics, will be on display until Sunday, 11 April.
Hederics, who settled in Bendigo in 2020, said she was approached by Living Arts Space curator Amy Carr-Bottomley for the collection.
“The exhibition is a series of works I’ve been making in my home studio over the past year or so,” Hederics said.
The exhibition uses light, shadows and household materials to create patterns and visual markers of movement through the space.
Hederics worked from her home studio, a space she created during the COVID-19 pandemic while also raising her son.
“One of the difficult things as a mother and an artist you have to find a whole new way of being and a whole new identity in that space because life just doesn’t work the same way as it did before,” she said.
“That becomes a strength in that end because there’s less time and so work has to be made more definitively.”
Hederics said she wanted to give people who visit the exhibition hall a private space to be inspired and reflect on extended periods of being at home.
“I really enjoyed making a space that was somewhat enclosed and using some fabric pieces to make some kind of privacy,” she said.
“The community has been very welcoming and thanks to the City of Bendigo for giving me the opportunity.”
