Free chemical disposal on Cup Day

CELEBRATE the Bendigo Cup public holiday by ridding your home of unwanted household chemicals.

On Wednesday, 27 October the City of Greater Bendigo is hosting a Detox Your Home service at the Bendigo Livestock exchange between 9am and 2pm.

Municipal resource recovery and education manager Brooke Pearce said the free event is an opportunity for anyone to dispose of chemicals in a safe manner.

“Household chemicals can be dangerous, and Detox Your Home is a great opportunity to get rid of unwanted chemical products in a safe and environmentally-friendly way,” she said.

“This year people must register to attend due to COVID-19 restrictions and those who fail to do this will be turned away at the gate. So please take a couple of minutes to register if you would like to participate.”

Items including aerosol cans, brake fluid, cleaning agents, cooking oils, and fuels such as petrol, diesel and kerosene.

Herbicides, pesticides, rat poison, paint stripper, nail polish and remover, and wood varnish are also accepted.

A specialist team will collect, treat, recycle or dispose of the chemicals.

Items such as paint, household, batteries, light bulbs and gas bottles are accepted at the Eaglehawk Recycle Shop Recovery Yard all year round.
