GOORNONG residents have been offered a free inspection of their septic systems and feedback as to whether there’s any problems with them.

Some of the information gathered from the visits will assist in the ongoing development of the City of Greater Bendigo’s Goornong Structure Plan.

The Structure Plan is a blueprint for the future of the township, setting out what it should look like, where development should happen and what infrastructure is needed.

Manager strategic planning Anthony Petherbridge said the inspections are being offered at a point where the Structure Plan project was moving to an important stage.

“Most of the technical studies that inform the Plan are progressing well and the project is moving to (the) critical next stage,” he said.

Staff from the City of Greater Bendigo’s Environmental Health team will be visiting Goornong during the remainder of March, as well as in April and May to conduct the inspections.

According to the City, it’s important for property owners’ septic systems to be working well to protect public health and the environment.

It said major problems with the equipment are not common, but they can happen.

If problems in fact are occurring, the City has pledged to work with residents to fix any issues before any further action is considered.

A visit to properties will only occur if residents give their consent. For more information or to book a visit, call or email the team via 5434 6333 or [email protected].
