Funny females to bring the laughs
THE Engine Room is set to play host to some of the country’s funniest women next week as part of this year’s Women of Wit Tour.
The tour which was initially introduced as a way to encourage women to take the stage in a safe environment has gone on to become an annual event with multiple stops.
This year will see Jordan Barr, Grace Jarvis, Rachel Rayner and Cal Wilson take the stage, as well as Castlemaine’s Patti Fawcett.
It’s Fawcett’s second time with Women of Wit but she said her role has expanded this year and she is excited to be a part of it.
“I did it last year as the local spot,” she said. “Which is like the five-minute set at the top kind of thing and it was so much fun.
“I’m doing 10 minutes this year, I think, I hope. I’ve been writing stuff for this, so I’m excited to give it a shot.
“I mean if you’re doing anything you’re passionate about and if you’re doing one of these cool gigs or something and you’re on the poster, it’s just so cool.”
Performing as a part of a big show in Bendigo is also special for Fawcett she said.
“I went to school in Bendigo, and I know from being from a smaller town and going to school in Bendigo there is a lack of shows like this,” she said.
“I mean there is a lack in general in rural cities and regional areas. I don’t think I ever saw a comedy show in Bendigo that wasn’t like a theatre production until I was in one myself.”
The Women of Wit Tour stops in Bendigo on Friday 30 June at 8pm at the Engine Room, with tickets available at gotix.com.au.
