THE first of a series of off-site events Bendigo Art Gallery will present while closed for an extended period for refurbishment, has been announced.

CURIOSITY: Building Breakthroughs in LEGO Bricks, to be staged at Discovery Science and Technology Centre from Tuesday 3 March next year, is billed as an exploration of scientific knowledge, technological advancements, engineering feats and mathematical puzzles, recreated in detail with LEGO.

Designed by LEGO Certified Professional Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught, who attended high school in Bendigo, the exhibition was originally held at Questacon, Canberra’s National Science and Technology Centre.

Gallery director Jessica Bridgfoot said she was excited to work with the Science and Technology Centre on the “family-friendly” display.

“We’re thrilled to bring Ryan McNaught’s mind-boggling LEGO masterpieces to Bendigo – each one a showcase of imagination, creativity and exceptional skill,” she said.

“The medium of LEGO is both intergenerational and universal, sparking wonder and encouraging creativity across all ages.

“It invites us to experiment, to dream, and to build new worlds.

“We’re also proud to welcome Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught back to Bendigo and to celebrate the outstanding talent from our region in this exclusive interactive exhibition experience.”

Centre general manager Alissa Van Soest said the exhibition “speaks to the very heart” of what they do, aiming to make science fun, accessible, and inspiring.

“This exhibition invites everyone to be curious, to question, and best of all to create,” she said.

“That’s the kind of learning that sticks, and the kind of experience Discovery is all about.”

CURIOSITY: Building Breakthroughs in LEGO Bricks opens on Tuesday 3 March 2026 and runs until Sunday 29 November 2026 at Discovery Science and Technology Centre.

Exhibition entry will be included with general admission to the centre, however pre-purchasing tickets online is recommended.
