Game on for Bendigo Monopoly!

IT’S official, Bendigo has joined the great cities and regions of the world with its very own edition of Monopoly.

The ever-popular board game was launched at the Golden Dragon Museum, which is in the game, on Wednesday and also features other well-known local locations like Rosalind Park, Pall Mall and Bendigo Station.

“I think it’s a terrific thing,” said City of Greater Bendigo deputy-mayor Jennifer Alden.

“We’re very fortunate to be in that league, being able to be part of the Monopoly family.

“For our tourism business it’s fantastic. People coming to Bendigo will want to take away a memento, but equally people who are residents are really excited.

“Everyone I speak to says I’ll be buying one for Christmas.”

The colours and properties on the game board are Rosalind Park and The Capital on brown, light blue is Golden Dragon Museum, Ulumbarra Theatre and the Bendigo Art Gallery, pink is Drummond Golf, Queen Elizabeth Oval and the Bendigo Jockey Club, orange is Bendigo Pottery, Central Deborah Gold Mine and the Bendigo Showgrounds, red is Pall Mall, Lansell Square and Bendigo Marketplace, yellow is JM Leech Jeweller, Cambrian Hotel and the All Seasons, green is Jenny’s Kindergarten, Victory Christian College and Bendigo Health, while the much converted dark blue is made up of the The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion and Alexandra Foundation.

The transport places are taken up by Joss House Temple Tram Station, Lake Weeroona Tram Station, Bendigo Railway Station and Bendigo Airport.

Michael Counsell, from Winning Moves who make custom Monopoly games, said the board was a celebration of the region.

“Bendigo has such a rich history and is a hub for arts and culture in the Victoria region,” he said.

“We are excited to launch this new edition and celebrate everything the area has to offer.”
