FOUR national school sports tournaments will be heading to Bendigo next year.

Part of the first-ever National All Schools Sport Challenge, Bendigo will host boys and girls 3×3 basketball along with netball, hockey, and table tennis comps.

The tournaments will involve year 9 and 10 students from state, private and catholic school across Australia, and bringing them to town was a partnership between organiser Schools in Action and the City of Greater Bendigo.

“We are delighted to host the inaugural National All Schools Sport Challenges at our world-class facilities in Bendigo that will bring together so many talented high school students, competing over two weeks in August 2023,” said Terry Karamaloudis, municipal manager of tourism and major events.

“We look forward to welcoming families and I encourage everyone to make the most of your stay and enjoy Greater Bendigo’s fantastic visitor experiences and support our local businesses.”

The netball and 3×3 basketball will be played at Red Energy Arena, hockey is set for Bendigo Regional Hockey Complex, while the local table tennis association facilities in Eaglehawk will play host to that comp.

Director of Schools in Action, Deneille Sutton, said she was looking forward to accessing the region’s world-class venues.

“We are thrilled to have the City of Greater Bendigo with their outstanding facilities hosting the first of our four National All Schools Sport Challenges,” she said.

“It provides Schools in Action the opportunity to bring the excitement of school sport to Bendigo.”

The competitions will take place over two weeks during late August and early September next year.
