A CHARITY that has delivered more than 400 free loads of laundry to locals in need since launching in Bendigo in July 2024 has called for help with its March Walk The Walk fundraising campaign.
Orange Sky provides free mobile laundry and shower services for the homeless in more than 24 locations across Australia, including the Salvation Army in Mundy Street on Mondays from 1pm to 3pm and Thursdays from 10.30am to 1pm.
It operates over 260 weekly shifts nationwide, backed up by a team in excess of 2000 volunteers.
As part of the campaign, fundraisers are asked to walk, run, roll or ride 122 kilometres by 31 March to support the more-than 122,000 Australians currently experiencing homelessness.
They can track their progress on the Orange Sky website, which will also process donations on each participant’s behalf.
Orange Sky events and community specialist Kristanna Sutton said the campaign is about turning movement into meaningful action for people doing it tough.
“By taking on 122 kilometres this March, you’re helping Orange Sky deliver clean clothes, warm showers and connection to Aussies experiencing homelessness and hardship,” she said.
“It’s time to Walk The Walk, not just talk the talk.”
Orange Sky co-founder Lucas Patchett said homelessness is a complex issue and can look different for a lot of people.
“Some people are forced to sleep on the streets, however some are living out of their cars, or sleeping on a friend’s couch,” he said.
“Orange Sky’s services have never been busier, so it has never been more important to speak about the issues that face more than 122,494 Aussies.”
