THE cavernous shell that once housed the legendary John Palmer’s Gym in McCrae Street is set to play host next week to what’s shaping up as the gig of the year.

The dormant space will burst back to life, if only temporarily, on Saturday, 11 December for the launch of home-grown sensations Four Lions’ new album, Wide Awake.

A fired up Four Lions’ songwriter and lead vocalist Shann Lions sees the upcoming performance as the ultimate realisation of what the band’s fifth record was inherently designed for straight up stadium rock.

“We’re bringing in a huge stage, PA and lights,” he said. “This shall be like the closest we can get to an all-ages, licensed arena music concert in Bendigo.”

“We are playing most of the new album minus a couple of songs from it.

“It’s an album launch, so why not treat the crowd to 90 minutes of all our new, old, and deep back catalogue?”

“We’re lucky to have Ash Greblo performing comedy, and Uncle Rodney Carter conducting a Welcome to Country on the night too.”

“It’s going to be not just a show but an event. If you like acts like Springsteen, The Killers and Oasis, then this will be the gig you don’t want to miss out on.”

As part of the launch Four Lions are giving away two tickets to the showcase. To be eligible to win, email [email protected] by 11.59pm on Wednesday, 8 December.
