Education Week is an annual celebration of school learning in Victoria.

This year’s theme, Spotlight on STEM, highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in our everyday lives, in the classroom and beyond.

The Bendigo Tech School was opened in 2018 and provides opportunities for young people to develop their STEM skills in a hands-on way.

“From robotics to virtual reality, it’s giving local kids the high-tech skills they’ll need for their future,” Victorian Premier and Mendigo East MP Jacinta Allan said.

“Recently, I was delighted to officially open the new inclusive playground at the Strathfieldsaye Primary School and celebrate such a fantastic milestone with the school community.

“Inclusive playgrounds are about having fun. But they also send an important message about inclusivity – providing an opportunity for every student to play together.

“We know that from kindergarten to a great local school all the way to TAFE and university, education changes lives. To get the very best education you need the very best facilities, and I was proud to join with the Strathfieldsaye school community in welcoming its wonderful new playground.”

Ms Allan said sending time with the students and staff at Strathfieldsaye Primary School reinforced to her how great local school communities are, and how important it is to provide decent funding to them.

“Whether it’s investing in the skills students need for the future, upgrading and modernising classrooms or creating inclusive playgrounds, our government is ensuring that families have a great local school and our young people the best opportunities to succeed,” she said.

“In Education Week, I would like to congratulate the teachers and all the school communities across our region on their hard work to make sure every child has the best start in life.”
