A PLANNING scheme amendment aimed at protecting buildings and areas of heritage significance in Golden Square and beyond is open for public comment.

The proposed C270gben amendment covers Golden Square, part of Ironbark and part of the city centre, and is open for comment until Monday 16 September.

It proposes to implement recommendations of the Golden Square Structure Plan, the Golden Square Urban Design Framework and the Golden Square Heritage Study, Volumes 1 and 2.

City of Greater Bendigo strategic planning manager Anthony Petherbridge said the extensive planning work was necessary to prepare the amendment.

“As part of the proposed C270gben process, overlays and zones have been reviewed and new changes have been proposed,” Mr Petherbridge said.

“The aim of the amendment is to protect buildings and areas of heritage significance that are valued by the community and to change zoning and other overlays where appropriate.

“If you are a landowner or resident in Golden Square, Ironbark or the city centre, there may be changes proposed to the zoning or overlay of your property.

“These changes may or may not impact the use and development of your land.”

Mr Petherbridge said letters were posted to all affected property owners last week, explaining proposed changes and how they could affect individual properties or land.

He said residents were welcome to view amendment documents and discuss questions with city strategic planning officers during the exhibition period.

They could also attend drop-in information sessions to discuss the amendment with officers.

The first session took place last week and the second is scheduled for Monday 9 September from 4pm to 6.30pm at the Golden Square Football Netball Club in Wade Street.

The amendment and its explanatory report can be viewed on the websites of the Department of Transport and Planning and the city, or at the Galkangu – Bendigo GovHub customer service reception.

To make a request to inspect the documents, phone the city on 1300 002 642 or email [email protected].

Written submissions can be made until Monday 16 September by post to the City of Greater Bendigo Strategic Planning Unit, PO Box 733, Bendigo, or via email to [email protected].
