Grassroots hub keeps growing
AFTER incorporating in March, members of the proposed Huntly Community Hub have taken further strides in establishing themselves in the suburb.
Most recently, a website and Facebook page went live last Wednesday at their monthly community dinner at Huntly Hotel.
As a result of becoming better known to the public, other organisations have reached out with offers of support.
“The really exciting thing coming up soon will be taking some elderly for day trips with a bus,” said Huntly Community Hub secretary Joy Drummond.
“When they [the local pub] saw that we’d finally gone live, they reached out and said, ‘How can we help?’
“They’re going to let us borrow their bus, and pay for fuel, and pack us a lunch. We’ll be forever grateful for their help in doing that.”
The hub is currently based at Huntly SES building and is open on Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm to anyone who might like to stop by for a chat and a hot drink, and as well as borrow a range of DVDs.
“It’s just somewhere that the community can come and drop in and we can get to know a little bit more about what they want,” said Ms Drummond.
“It’s not what us, the committee, want to do for the community, it’s what the community want us to do for them.
“It’s just about reaching out, now that we’ve got our branding set up, I think that will happen a lot quicker.”
The group has used grants from the City of Greater Bendigo to set up services and funding for a regular Huntly Community Hub newsletter which will hopefully be secured over the next few months, with plans to start early next year.
