Greblo to perform in Melbourne
AFTER a two-year hiatus, Bendigo comedian Ash Greblo will return the Melbourne International Comedy Festival next month.
Performing alongside Melbourne comics Lewis Dowell and Raewyn Pickering, Greblo said he’s keen to share his new material at the festival.
“This is number five for me, but I’ve had the last two years off. It’s so exciting to be back, it’s such a good atmosphere, there’s people everywhere getting around this fun thing,” he said.
“I’m doing a pretty exciting split show with Lewis Dowell and Raewyn Pickering, who are two really good Melbourne comedians.”
Greblo promised 50 minutes of non-stop laughs, even if some of his jokes are a bit riskier.
“I’m a bit nervous about this show, I’ve got a joke that 100 per cent relies on the audience knowing what a diplodocus is, and at the moment it’s 50/50 on that,” he said.
Despite the pandemic, the comedian said he’s avoided COVID-19 when it comes to writing jokes.
“I haven’t written any COVID jokes but I have gone on stage and told some funny thing that might’ve been COVID related at the time,” he said.
“[The pandemic] made me go up the bush a lot just to try and escape lockdown and I saw some pretty interesting things, I came back to Bendigo and naturally a lot of funny things happened here as they usually do, and I’ve been able to turn some of them into jokes.
“The shows you want to see this year, and mine’s one of them, are the happy, fun shows packed with laughter, and you can just have a bit of a break.
“The world’s still pretty crazy so if you can get 50 minutes packed with laughs, I feel like that’s a pretty good deal.”
The show will run from Tuesday, 19 April to Sunday, 24 April.
