Despite the recent flooding in surrounding parts of Victoria, everything is pretty much good to go for the three-day, 20th anniversary edition of the mammoth Bendigo Caravan & Camping Leisurefest.

The first to be held since 2019, Leisurefest will take place between 18 and 20 November at the Bendigo Racecourse.

More than 50 caravan, camper, motorhome and hybrid manufacturers and distributors are expected to participate, as well as a similar number of associated accessory and technology brands.

“Preparations are going really well, and we are so delighted to be back, even though we understand that the region has been hit by, like everywhere, a lot of rain,” said Rob Lucas, CEO of Caravan Industry Victoria, the organisation behind the event.

“Our plans have now been finalised and we’re really looking forward to returning.

“By and large the racetrack looks fantastic, it looks brilliant. It always does. The guys do an amazing job and we’ve got such a great partnership with them.

“We’re very sensitive to the fact that there are areas where people have come from before that are flooded, but we’re getting such support from consumers it’s not funny.

“We’re getting phone calls just making sure that the show is still on.”

During and following the pandemic the caravan and campaign sector experienced a boom, with everything from tents to the latest fifth-wheelers from North America flying out of shops and showrooms.

With so many options for people wanting to experience the great outdoors available, Mr Lucas said events like Leisurefest help consumers access all the options in one place.

“One of the reasons why the Bendigo leisure fest is so popular is because we bring everything, motorhomes, campervans, camper trailers, and there’s a new product coming onto the market called a hybrid, which is halfway between and camper trailer and a caravan,” he said.

“Come and have a look, it’s a good few days. Not only will you see caravans and recreational vehicles, you’ll also get to see the latest accessories.

“Of course, people may have purchased a caravan in the last few years and started to use them, but want an upgrade, tables, chairs, utensils, lights… you’ll be able to see it all. There’s something for everyone.”

Caravan Industry Victoria has chosen headspace as a charity partner for the event, with the youth mental health organisation set to receive $5000 from the proceeds.
