THE world-class Bendigo Military Museum has expanded its hours to now be open daily from 10am to 4pm thanks to a new partnership between the Bendigo District RSL Sub-Branch and Bendigo Heritage.
Under the new alliance, Bendigo Heritage, which operates the Central Deborah Gold Mine and Bendigo Tramways, will manage visitor servicing at the venue.
The collaboration aims to broaden public awareness of the significant site, ensuring more locals and visitors can experience Central Victoria’s rich military history.
“The partnership strengthens Bendigo’s reputation as a destination with quality cultural experiences, encouraging off-peak visitation and extending visitor length of stay to the region,” Bendigo Heritage acting CEO Tynille Thurlow said.
Bendigo District RSL general manager Martin Beekes said the partnership should make the museum more accessible to visitors.
“[It] ensures there is no change to the museum’s mission or its ongoing commitment to honouring service, sacrifice and military heritage,” he said.
The Bendigo District RSL Sub-Branch will continue to oversee the museum’s collections, exhibition spaces and the coordination of commemorative events, including Anzac Day services.
The new arrangement will allow visitors, educators and groups to experience the museum proper and exhibitions at a time that best suits their needs.
It also highlights Bendigo’s commitment to preserving its heritage while creating engaging and accessible experiences that strengthen the region’s cultural tourism offering.
Its latest exhibition, Nasho ’57: 98 Days at Pucka, continues until Sunday 26 July.
