RIDERS from around Victoria and interstate gathered at the Elmore Equestrian Centre late last month to compete in the third annual Girton Grammar Horseland Bendigo Interschool Showjumping and Dressage Championships.

The event drew 60 riders for the showjumping competition and 120 for the dressage competition, with Girton triumphant in the showjumping, edging out Braemar College and Maryborough’s Highview College.

Toorak College claimed first place in the dressage, followed by The Geelong College and Flinders Christian Community College.

Girton teacher and Equestrian Club coordinator Nic James, who organised the event along with parent Jody Pickering, said she was proud of the continued success of the competition and the opportunities it provides for young riders.

“This is a fantastic event that celebrates the dedication and horsemanship of equestrian students from Girton and beyond,” she said.

“The school is extremely proud to host a competition that brings the interschool equestrian community to our region while showcasing our exceptional local talent.

“(We’re) grateful for the support of our sponsors, and for the many student, staff and parent volunteers who have ensured the event’s success.”

Meeting throughout the year, members compete individually and in teams in a variety of interschool showjumping, dressage and showing competitions – locally, regionally and interstate.

Standout performers for the club over the two days included Charlotte Burnside, Leah Pickering, Harrison and Francis Walls, Isabella Arthur, Caroline Batters, Annika Hall, Maggie and Charlie Walmsley, Alexis Weekley and Harriet Williams.
