I Hate Cooking is not what you think
What’s your feeling about cooking, do you love it or dislike it?
If you fall into the latter category, childcare worker Kylie Kent is here to help.
She’s now baking, sizzling and dishing up a storm in her spare time with the nationwide home catering service I Hate Cooking.
The organisation, which is an NDIS partner, has Ms Kent helping households plan and cook weekly meals.
“I’m a family day care educator with a passion for working with children and families and I also love cooking and I love food,” she said.
“So, I thought how best to connect with the local community than to connect the two?
“Generally, my customers range from busy families as well as NDIS clients who are looking to learn how to cook.”
Ms Kent said she also teaches basic cooking skills in the homes of NDIS clients.
“We help them build basic skills to help increase their independence and we spend time creating good hygiene practices with them, cooking with them, and helping them to make shopping lists,” she said.
“It’s quite rewarding in that space as well, working with people with additional needs who want to increase their independence.”
Ms Kent said she also enjoys working with older people who’d like an extra hand in the kitchen.
“It helps to simplify their lives,” she said. “We make meals from scratch, using simple, wholesome ingredients.”
Ms Kent said NDIS clients use a program called Cook, Eat, Repeat, and they can prepare different kinds of meals and snacks.
“It could be dinners, lunchbox items, so muffins, slices, it could be breakfast smoothies,” she said. “We’re also very aware of allergies and intolerances, so we have a menu fit for that.”
