A LIVE children’s performance that teaches primary schoolers different positive mental health strategies through music, stories and comedy is coming to town during the school holidays.

3 Happy Tricks is the brainchild of not-for-profit The Resilience Project, which was established nearly 15 years ago to help people become happier and more resilient.

Presenter Martin Heppell, a Resilience Project partner, said the premise of the show is to give kids and their carers an opportunity to share an experience learning about the strategies that can support them during difficult times.

“When you’re growing up, there’s so many things that you’re worried about – fitting in, belonging, your status. You’re worried about what other people think,” he said.

“When the kids come to the show, no matter how old they are, it’s about giving them an opportunity to understand that when we start to scan the world for positives, if we do that regularly our optimism goes through the roof.

“The key is I want the kids to know that they’re awesome. The whole point of the show is for every kid who walks in that door – I want to empower them.

“I want them to know that it’s okay to be them. I want them to know that they are awesome being them.”

The Resilience Project – 3 Happy Tricks with Martin Heppell takes place on Thursday 26 September from 11am at the Capital Theatre.

Tickets are available on the Gotix website.
