A COMMUNITY initiative aiming to raise $50,000 for the Bendigo Health Palliative Care redevelopment was launched recently by Beck Legal.

Matter for a Cause invites community members to have a professionally prepared legal will completed for $250 for a single person or $500 for a couple. Funds are directly donated to support the redevelopment of the Palliative Care Unit.

Clinical unit head of Palliative Care Dr Li Chi said the redevelopment would make a meaningful difference for families during an incredibly important time.

“You can imagine this is a very important and special time for families and the contribution from Matter for a Cause will help make it a very peaceful and comfortable place for that time,” he said.

Beck Legal managing director Daniel Cole said more than half of Victorian adults do not have a legal will, and the initiative strongly aligns with the firm’s values and commitment to the local community.

“As a people-first organisation, we believe it’s important to support community initiatives,” he said.

“Our people live and work in this community, and we want to see everyone in the region have access to facilities like this when needed.

“By helping transform this space, we’re contributing to something that can provide comfort and support to those who need it most.

“Many individuals, couples and families don’t have an up-to-date will, so this initiative also gives people the opportunity to take care of an

important piece of personal administration while supporting a truly worthy cause.”

Bendigo Health Foundation director of fundraising Shaun Spence said the campaign is not about asking for donations.

“We are simply asking you to look after yourself, look after your family by making your will, and at the same time you are looking after Bendigo Health Palliative Care,” he said.

Beck Legal is encouraging individuals and families across the region to get involved, prepare or update their will, and help reach the $50,000 fundraising goal by 30 November.
