A NEW mural on widows at of Bendigo Library has been officially unveiled.

The eight-metre-long work flows along the glass of the children’s collection, and like the recent addition of a large native aquarium to the space, focuses on the Bendigo Creek.

Local artist Troy Firebrace was commissioned to create the work and said it goes beyond the banks of the waterway to tell a wider story.

“This is the cycle of this creek, this is its transformation,” he said.

“What I have designed in this artwork is not only a timeline of what we do in Bendigo, but also the transformation of the creek and what’s happening around the creek.

“Bringing the creek into this space, into the middle of Bendigo is challenging in that how do you make sure this isn’t artificial.

“What’s interesting about this work is that not only does it travel in time, it has a timeline.

“It starts at a point where the creek is dry. You can see in the creek itself as the water has changes.

“Then the creek starts to take on a new form, that form though times shifts into a stage in the season where the water starts to begin.

“Then we see that creek starts to expand on its base, going into pools and rock wells, and of course it starts to flood the wetlands.”
