VOLUNTEERS from Relay for Life Bendigo and the town’s Lions Club were at the last weekend’s Sheep and Wool Show selling raffle tickets to raise money for Cancer Council.

Prizes included one of three getaways with seven nights’ accommodation in Port Douglas.

The raffle will be this year’s only fundraising effort as Relay for Life walk has been postponed due to ongoing implications from COVID restrictions.

The next relay will take place on the 20 April 2024.

“It’s a fun event,” said Peter Muhling, Lions Club Bendigo president. “People run in teams and can dress up.”

The joint efforts have raised approximately 3.7 million dollars in the 21-year history of Relay for Life in Bendigo.

Athol Fredrick from Relay for Life Bendigo said proceeds go directly to Cancer Council, and ongoing support from the Lions Club included a $1000 donation towards this year’s raffle.

“It’s a matter of giving back and doing what we can to help the cause,” he said.

Raffle tickets will be on sale until 9 September and winners will be announced at a charity dinner on the same night.

“Visitors are welcome, especially potential members,” said Mr Muhling.
