Local acts find their groove
GROOVIN the Moo has come and gone again for another year and while big-name acts like Fat Boy Slim, Amy Shark and Alt-J fired up the crowds, locals also got their chance to shine on the festival stage.
One of those was Triple J Unearthed selection and Bendigo’s own NAYYETHWEY performing at his very first festival, an experience he said he will never forget.
“It was bloody, bloody awesome,” he said. “Honestly, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect set on Saturday.
“I was over the moon with it, the boys really grinded to get our set together and we didn’t have the best of equipment to practice with or the best spaces to rehearse in.
“But nailing it in rehearsal and then bringing it onto the stage at Groovin really just took it to the next level with all their high-quality equipment.
“It sounded great, especially from the stage and I’ve heard from people in the crowd that it was a really good set as well, so, yeah, I can’t complain.”
NAYYETHWEY said the response to his performance had been positive and hopefully, it lures in more listeners.
“Bringing the people, a set of pure original music was a great feeling,” he said. “It was great to get the reception I got and the positivity and the feedback I received after the set was amazing.
“People reacted positively to my music and hopefully they can kind of tune in a bit more moving forward. I left a good impression at Groovin so hopefully, it’ll bring in some more listeners.”
Another act to grace the GTM stage was Bendigo DJ Deus Sax, who brought his multi-faceted act to the dance arena, The Plot, for an hour.
With his disc jockey, percussion and saxophone set Deus Sax said he wanted to achieve a couple of things.
“I had two goals going in and I didn’t care about how many mistakes I made,” he said.
“The goals were that there were enough people that it wasn’t awkward, which happened. The other was that the crowd grew throughout the hour which happened as well.”
It was Deus Sax’s second time performing at GTM and he said it was exciting to see some fresh faces in the crowd this year as well as friends and family.
“There was a fair group of people in the crowd that I knew but not heaps,” he said. “Which is actually a really good thing because that means it’s new fans that have come to see me play.”
