A NEW buy local initiative will hand out tens of thousands of dollars worth of vouchers next month in a bid to amplify the Bendigo independent business economy.

The City of Greater Bendigo’s Lucky Local campaign will select four winners each and every day during July, each of whom will receive a $250 voucher for a participating local independent operator.

To enter, simply spend $20 or more in a single transaction at a local business listed on the campaign’s website and upload your receipt to the platform.

Winners will be announced every day on Triple M’s Cogho & Jules for Breakfast radio program at 8am from 1 July and they will also be contacted directly.

Mayor Cr Thomas Prince said the campaign has been developed to support businesses and boost local spending.

“We have passionate local retailers, producers, makers, suppliers, cafes, restaurants, hotels, unique attractions and a variety of services on the list of participating businesses,” he said.

“With vouchers up for grabs every day in July, there’s a strong incentive for residents to shop locally this winter.

“When you support local businesses, you are helping businesses to grow, retain and create jobs.”

Cr Prince said local businesses bring vibrancy and activity to precincts, suburbs and small towns, which is great for the community and keeps more spending in Greater Bendigo. “This is a great way to discover an amazing variety of businesses right here in Greater Bendigo and there is no cost to businesses to be involved,” he said.
