MAGIC found Luke Blaze at an early age and now the performer is set to chare his calling with regional audiences as part of his original show Reborn.

Blaze created his first magic show at 16 and said that was the moment he realised the power of imagination, which led to the phrase in Reborn, “let your imagination become reality.”

“I pose that sentence to my audience throughout Reborn quite a few times because I want them to see that anything really is possible, you just have to believe in yourself and back yourself,” he said.

One segment of Reborn relies on audience participation and Blaze said it doesn’t work if that person hasn’t given in to their imagination.

“If they don’t believe the levitation will happen, then it won’t happen,” he said. “But as soon as they suspend their belief, they’re able to experience the magic, not just them but the whole theatre.”

Reborn features music and magic routines, stories based on Blazes’ personal experiences, and a water escape act.

“The water tank escape is definitely the craziest, a lot of people question my sanity going in there,” he said.

“Something that my crew know,” he said, “I’ve always said that if I was to choose one way to die it would be inside the water tank on stage.

“In saying that, it’s not on the cards anytime soon!”

Blaze prepares for the stunt with breath-training in an ice bath and by practicing picking the locks.

“I have blacked out in it once, in a live audience last year and my crew had to stop the show, close the curtains and get me out,” he said.

The performer said although he regained consciousness quickly and was able to re-join the audience, he teared up at the sight of the water tank at his last rehearsal.

“It was a surreal experience to take a look at the tank and realise the history that I’ve got with it, but it makes me all the more motivated and determined to get out.”

Reborn will be at the The Capital, Bendigo on Saturday 7 October at 7.30pm and for tickets contact Bendigo Venues and Events.
