THE three megalitre concrete water tank and booster pump at Marong is now operational, meaning town residents could see a more consistent water flow.

Coliban Water executive general manager of climate and population adaptation Steve Healy said the tank was needed due to the population growth of the area.

“We want to thank the Marong community, which has been patient in waiting for improvements to water pressure and we’re delighted to have delivered the project in time for this summer,” he said.

“There has been huge growth in these communities to the west of Bendigo and more expected in the coming years, and its crucial we’re putting in the infrastructure now to support this area into the future.

“This project not only delivers more reliability in the network but improved pressure for our customers.”

Construction on the tank, booster pump and pipelines began in May, and an additional large-diameter pipe between Marong and Bendigo is expected to be constructed by March next year.

Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said the tank is “crucial” for the town.

“This tank and it’s pipework are an integral way we can future proof our region and ensure we’re ready for our growing population,” she said.
