Media workshop on air for budding stars
JOURNALIST and teacher Matt Christie is coming to town next month to hold a radio presenter and podcasting information session at Long Gully Neighbourhood Centre.
The Tuesday 4 July workshop is part of a regional set of sessions that were borne out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We started in 2010 and we’ve been pretty much all around the world delivering programs over that time,” he said. “However, the pandemic came along and changed the direction of the business.
“I don’t know what happened during COVID which saw us heading out to rural and regional Victoria and New South Wales to deliver our programs and it’s just taken off.
“The best thing about it is people don’t have to travel out of their home area to attend a course they’ve got a real keen interest in.
“We can bring the course to them, save them a lot of money on public transport and buying lunch every day, all those types of things.”
Mr Christie said the workshop is a great stepping stone for someone looking to get into the industry full-time or even for those with just a passing interest.
“The class is really aimed at anybody,” he said. “The youngest person we’ve had participate in the course before has been 13 and our oldest has been 86 and everything in between.
“Participants will have lots of fun learning the fundamental skills behind putting together a podcast, putting together a radio show, and then being able to present it.
“We do tours with the local community radio stations also because quite often the people that are doing the courses have never actually been inside a radio station. We also bring in some guest speakers.”
