Mental health fundraiser returns
A FUNDRAISING effort is once again encouraging people to get active in October while raising funds for new and improved mental health services at Bendigo Health.
This year, money raised from the virtual Move for Mental Health challenge will go towards a multi-purpose patient transport bus.
Participants can decide how they get involved, whether they want to run, walk, cycle, take gym classes or choose any other way to get active.
Bendigo Health fundraising and foundation director Rachel Mason said the campaign has allowed the hospital to provide new exercise programs, gym equipment and sensory modulation tools for patients.
“With the support of the community and sponsors like Bendigo Radiology, the Move for Mental Health virtual challenge has improved the wellbeing and recovery outcomes of mental health patients across the Loddon Mallee region,” she said.
“I encourage everyone to get involved and register for this great challenge as all funds raised stay local and help members of our community.”
Bendigo Radiology liaison and quality manager Megan Egan said the organisation is proud to be a sponsor of the challenge again.
“Move for Mental Health not only sees participants benefit from regular fitness activity but we’re also helping patients access specialised exercise programs,” she said.
Last year’s campaign raised just under $66,000 for mental health programs at Bendigo Health, and Ms Mason said it “exceeded” expectations, resulting in it becoming an annual event.
Registrations can be made as an individual or part of a family or team.
