WHITE Hills Amcal Pharmacy served up more than prescriptions recently as their Biggest Morning Tea event raised money for Cancer Council.

Pharmacy manager Sanjay Jhaveri said his wife Mita has been organising an event for years, however this year was the best response yet, raising a combined $1500 in store and at the couple’s home.

“Mita’s been doing it for quite a few years, it’s a passion she’s got for raising money for cancer, trying to help fight cancer,” he said.

“The last two or three years we’ve been doing it at the pharmacy as well as at home to try raise a bit more money.”

Mr Jhaveri said this year’s morning tea blew away all expectations, more than tripling 2019’s fundraiser’s amount.

“All the staff contributed to the event, all brought slices and different kind of food. We had people come in with a gold coin donation, have a slice or a cup of tea and then walk out,” he said.

He said the community response, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, has been tremendous.

“It’s more this year than previous years because I think people have more empathy for people that are suffering more. People were donating $50 just like that, without even staying for tea,” he said.

“There was a feel-good feeling in the store a bit like it is at Christmas time, all the staff are helping out serving the tea and coffees, serving the customers their prescriptions as well, it was a fun time for everybody.”
