BENDIGO is known for its many and varied creative communities, and markets can be a great opportunity for makers in the community to showcase and sell their wares.

One such event is Trove Makers’ Market which runs on the third Sunday of each month outside cafe and bakery business, The Good Loaf, on Hargreaves Street.

At October’s market, there were about 30 stalls offering everything from condiments to jewellery, pottery, paintings, doughnuts, clothing, soaps, handmade dolls, and more.

First-time stallholder Margaret Dole decided to get in early with her Christmas decorations and had a range of air-dried clay and twine ornaments for sale.

“I started crafting these things a couple of years ago, basically to make my own Christmas decorations, that’s how it all started,” she said.

“Then I started making other things, and then I had family and friends who were very interested and started purchasing from me and ordering from me.

“Then, I think the logical next step was to see whether the general public would like it as well.

“I’ve tried some smaller markets but today’s my first day at Trove Market, and it’s proving to be really popular.”

Dole said it would not be her last time holding a stall at the market.

“I didn’t really know what to expect to be perfectly honest, and I have been very pleasantly surprised,” she said.

“I’ll definitely be back at the next one.”
