REPAIRS to the cycling track, new line markings, lighting upgrades, and the installation of new fencing are all set to go ahead at the Tom Flood events precinct this year.

The works come following a $900,000 grant from the State Government and will follow the recent $1.1 million upgrade to the sports centre’s oval which included a new drainage system, new soil, and drought-tolerant grass.

City of Greater Bendigo’s director of healthy communities and environment Stacy Williams said the municipality will try to ensure the upgrades cause as little disruption to users as possible.

“The cycling track works will be undertaken from mid-March to mid-April and the track and oval will remain closed to the public until complete,” she said.

“The installation of the new fencing will be completed by late September with minor impact on public access to the track.

“Lighting upgrades will be complete by June 2024 with no impact on public access to the site.”

Ms Williams said the upgrades should be a boon for a number of athletes and sporting groups including AFL, soccer and gridiron teams and reduce the usage of nearby Queen Elizabeth Oval.

This year’s International Madison had to be canceled as a result of ongoing works at Tom Flood, while the Bendigo Gift was moved to Flora Hill.
