WORK on new tennis and netball courts in Strathfieldsaye started this week.

The City of Greater Bendigo is spending $1.047 million on the project, which will result in five new courts suitable for tennis and netball training and competition in the recreation reserve precinct.

It is part of the council’s 2024-2025 capital works program, costed at $59.3 million.

Existing courts are being demolished now and will be replaced with three synthetic grass tennis courts to meet Tennis Australia guidelines and two new acrylic tennis/netball courts that meet both Tennis Australia and Netball Australia guidelines.

Lights, court fencing, two player shelters and a water drinking fountain will also be part of the project, while a disabled car parking bay will be provided in Uxbridge Street.

Finally, a path connecting the courts to the nearby Strathfieldsaye Community Hub building – the community hub, between Club Court and Uxbridge Street, is itself receiving a multimillion-dollar overhaul – will be installed.

The project is separate from the community hub redevelopment, fully funded by the city’s hard surfaces renewal program.

Work is expected to be completed in January next year.
