New digs for Strathfieldsaye groups
STRATHFIELDSAYE residents have welcomed the opening of the three-million-dollar second stage redevelopment of the Strathfieldsaye Community Hub, which is now home to the suburb’s bowls club and scout group.
The works centred around constructing facilities suitable for female sporting participants and modernising the building.
Speaking at the opening, City of Greater Bendigo deputy-mayor Cr Matt Evans said in the past 30 years, Strathfieldsaye had morphed into one of Bendigo’s key growth areas, meaning there’s great demand for such amenities.
“Projects like this are always a matter of good things coming to those who wait,” he said. “I acknowledge the tireless efforts of the passionate volunteers that use this space.
“Of course, this project would not have been possible without our funding partners and dedicated community groups. The City was delighted to contribute $3 million towards this project along with a $250,000 grant awarded to the 1st Strathfieldsaye Scouts from the Victorian State Government.
“Two years ago, we opened the new change rooms and amenities, umpire’s change rooms and a new canteen and kiosk.
“Today, we celebrate the next iteration of the building, an extension that improves our ability to see the bowling area, a new kitchen, office space for the user groups and upgrades to existing facilities including social spaces.”
“Importantly, the facilities are more inclusive and better integrated.
“We can now enjoy a more user-friendly, fit-for-purpose building that will support increased female participation in sport and greater overall access to the community.”
